Long-term disability carriers have a reputation for denying legitimate, well-supported claims.

If you have suffered from an injury or illness that keeps you from work, you deserve to get your long-term disability benefits, but unfortunately, there are a few hoops that you will have to jump through first. #3. Make sure that you get as much as possible in writing. 

Even if you are communicating with a representative from your insurance company over the phone, keep a written record of your own. Write down who you talked to, when you talked to them and what you discussed. If they provide you with any important information, you should always ask to get it in writing.

#4. Be careful about what you do and say.

Any time you interact with your insurance company, be very careful about what you do and say. Even the smallest remark could lead to a denial. For example, if you were to talk to your insurance company while you are somewhere other than your home, they could use the background noise to show that you are healthy enough to be at work. It is also important to note that many insurance companies will conduct surveillance of disability claimants.
