Checking the status of your Social Security disability benefits claim is incredibly important.

While we would all love to believe that the Social Security Administration is perfect, they are human and they do make mistakes. That’s why, here at Sullivan Law Office, we believe that checking the status of your claim is absolutely essential. Learn more about why checking the status of your claim is important by checking out our previous post. Today, we will be going over how to check the status of your claim throughout each step of the process:

Initial Application

Checking the status of your claim on a regular basis after you have submitted your application will alert you to any delays right away. If the Social Security Administration needs any additional evidence or documentation, checking the status will also allow you to get those things as soon as possible. You can check the status of your claim in the initial application step by:

  • Contacting your Social Security Administration Office.
  • Calling the disability examiner who was assigned to your specific case.
  • If you applied for your benefits online, you can also check your status online.

If your claim is denied and you wish to appeal the denial, the first step in the process is requesting a reconsideration. Once you have submitted all of the appropriate forms for the reconsideration request, you can contact your disability examiner or the local Social Security Administration office to check the status of your claim.
