Are you worried about staying afloat until you get your Social Security disability benefits in Louisville?
If so, you’ve come to the right place. We are Sullivan Law Office, and we are dedicated to helping you through all of the ins and outs of the Social Security application process. We also know that the process can take a very long time and you can’t always make do without that extra income while you wait. That’s why, in our last blog, we talked about the basics of working while you are waiting for your benefits. Working is just one of the ways you can stay afloat while waiting for benefits. Here are a few more:
#1. Apply for additional support programs.
There are many federal, state and local programs that may be able to assist you while you wait for benefits. A couple of federal programs that you could take advantage of include the Supplement Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. A good place to start is to contact the Department of Social Services to get assistance in finding the right programs and filling out applications.
#2. Look into your other options.
With a little creativity, you may be able to find financial assistance with a few other sources:
- Use your home – If you own a home, you may be able to take out a home equity loan or line of credit, or you could also look into refinancing it.
- Ask for help – If you have any family or friends that may be willing to help out, ask them!
- Life insurance plan – If you have a 401k or another life insurance plan, you may be able to cash it out or borrow against it.
