Have you had a chance to read out last blog yet? If you have, then you already know that what you post on social media can end up hurting your disability claim. But just because social media can end up hurting you, that doesn’t mean that you have to stop using it. Applying for disability shouldn’t mean that you have to give up having a life, and there are many things that you can do to stay safe on social media. The following is a list of tips from our disability attorney in Louisville of ways to stay safe while using social media:
#1. Update your privacy settings.
Don’t just assume that the default privacy settings will protect your information. Social media sites are giving their users more and more control over who can access what, and your privacy settings can play a big role in your social media safety.
#2. Be careful what you say.
Being careful on social media should be a given, but when you are in the process of applying for disability benefits, you need to be extra careful. As we mentioned in our last blog, posting things that seem innocent and fun to you can change the way that your case evaluator perceives you. Best practice is to avoid saying anything and everything that could possibly make you look like you are just “playing hooky”.
These are just a couple of the many things that you can do to stay safe on social media. Want to learn more? If so, please stay tuned for our next blog.
