Can You Speed Up Your SSD Hearing?

We’ve said it before, and we will say it again, the application process for Social Security disability takes time.

When you need benefits quickly, it feels like the whole process can take even longer. Anything you could do to speed up the process would be helpful, but how? You will be glad to know that there is one area where you have a bit of control, your Social Security disability hearing. Scheduling your Social Security disability hearing faster can be tricky, but it’s not impossible. The following is a list from our disability attorney in Louisville of a few ways to potentially speed up scheduling your hearing:

#1. Send a letter of dire need.

A dire need letter gives you the chance to highlight the severity of your financial situation. In some cases, the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (ODAR) will make the choice to expedite disability hearings for claimants who are at risk for foreclosure, eviction or losing their medications. If your situation is dire, try drafting a dire need letter. In addition to detailing your situation, you should also include evidence, like copies of late notices, eviction notices, etc. Although you may have a representative or a disability lawyer, you should still write the letter yourself. It is also important to note that ODAR receives hundreds of dire need letters daily, and the more detail you put in your letter, the more chance you have of actually being heard.

There are a couple more things you can do to potentially speed up scheduling your Social Security disability hearing. Stay tuned for our next blog to learn more.
